About the Artist: Opie Otterstad

Houston native Opie Otterstad is a world-renowned artist whose work captures history and emotion. Licensed by MLB, NBA, NFL, and NHL, he has created official paintings for 21 World Series, including both Houston Astros championships. His murals hang in Minute Maid Park, and his portraits of Houston sports legends shape the Houston Sports Hall of Fame.

Opie’s artistry extends beyond sports—from his NCAA Hall of Fame masterpiece to the mosaic fountain at GreenStreet, crafted with 600,000 tiles alongside University of Houston art students. In recognition of his contributions, December 12, 2023, was declared Opie Otterstad Day in Houston.

About the design

Now, Opie brings his creative genius to LEGO® with the exclusive Houston minifig torso, designed for the **Bricks & Minifigs Houston Area Summer Passport Activity!
The design is a tribute to the spirit of Houston:

- The edited skyline represents Opie’s personal connection to the city, featuring buildings from his youth and a nod to architect Philip Johnson.
- The boot honors Houston’s deep cowboy and cattle-driving heritage.
- The swirling star pays homage to Houston’s legacy in space exploration, drawn from the trophy design Opie created for the Houston Sports Awards.

Every element tells a story—a fusion of Houston’s past, present, and future, brought to life through Opie’s artistic vision.
